Frequently Asked Questions About Christian Counseling in Denver, CO

What is a Christian Counselor?

The way I do Christian Counseling is an integration of psychology and theology. Using Scripture as a source of truth and guidance, having a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, prayer and God’s work through the Holy Spirit is foundational to how I show up. See here for more.

What’s an LAC?

A Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) is registered with DORA, is licensed by the state, and passed both the national Master Addiction Counselor exam (MAC) and the Colorado Jurisprudence Exam which covers laws governing the counseling profession. Other requirements are a clinical mental health master’s degree (or equivalent as determined by CCE) and 2000 hours of supervision. I am listed in the state’s database and authorized by law to practice in Colorado.

Are you the right therapist for me?

Take advantage of a free 15-minute consult on the phone. During this time we can both decide if I am the best person to provide the services you need to meet your goals. By the end of 15 minutes, I will offer my impressions of what our work could include. If you have questions about the counseling process, we can discuss them as things come up. If you need, I can provide a referral.

How much does Christian counseling cost?

The rate of $145/hour is based on a 50-minute clinical hour for individual clients and families. Therapy sessions lasting longer will have charged accordingly. The rates are the same for individuals, couples, and families for in-person and online counseling; emergency or after-hour consultations; and correspondence. The flat rate per hour-and-a-half session for group participation is $285/month. If a report or consultation with an outside party is requested, you will be charged for any time needed to prepare documentation, or for a phone or in-person consultation.

Fees are evaluated annually; you will be given 60 days’ notice for any increases.

Do you do in-person or online counseling in Denver, CO?

In-person counseling sessions is in Cherry Creek North at 50 S. Steele Street, Suite 950, Denver, CO 80209. You can also do online counseling. My specialties are trauma, relationships and substance abuse.

Does online Christian counseling work?

Yes, online (video) counseling has become the norm since Covid for many. Texting is for scheduling only. We can meet in person for the first session or two and you can decide whether online or in-person works best for you. Online counseling is convenient and available via TherapyNotes (HIPPA compliant). Whether we meet online or in-person, many times people who make the quickest headway are connected spiritually to God. Are you willing to make the changes and do the work?

Payment and insurance.

I accept out-of-network insurance providers, HSA/HFA, debit cards, and credit cards. As an out-of-network provider, I can email you a superbill which you submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Medicaid/Medicare services are not offered.

I know it can feel like a big step to call a counselor, but I’ll make it easy. We’ll spend 15 minutes on the phone and I’ll let you know how or if I can help. If I am not the right person, I’ll do my best to get you to the right person.
