Top Myths about Christian Counseling in Denver: Why Get Christian Counseling?

You’ve read or know some about what Christian counseling is. Somehow pushing through things on your own or seeing a pastor is not enough. Central Denver does not have that many Christian counselors. Christian counselors are usually found in churches, faith-based ministries, and individual or group private practices. All Christians have a range of beliefs and values based on their education and their history with the Church. Of course, you want to ensure your values and beliefs align, especially If you’ve been traumatized in the Church.

I am here to help dispel some of the myths you have believed about Christian Counseling. If what’s blocking you isn’t in this list. Give me a call for a free 15-minute consultation.

Myth 1: Christian Counseling is only for Christian clients.

I am completely open to clients who are not hostile to Christians. If you want to explore emotional and psychological issues or spiritual issues, I’m game.

Myth 2: Christian Counselors only work on spiritual issues.

All counselors have their specialties and strengths. Pastoral counseling was the main focus of my education. I love helping adults, families and teens overcome trauma, relationship difficulties and substance abuse. I have training and experience in all three areas. I am a Licensed Addiction Counselor in Colorado and a Masters Level Therapist.

Myth 3: Christian Counselors are not as professional as Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs).

It depends on the counselor. You are invited to check a counselor’s Department of Regulatory Agencies DORA listing for Colorado. This will inform you if there are any complaints about the counselor. People’s credentials don’t always reflect their skill and experience in sessions.

I take a holistic mind/body approach to trauma healing. We will tackle only one trauma at a time and use NET (i.e. muscle testing like chiropractors use), TFT (you will tap or touch your meridian points), and EMDR tools. The trauma sessions integrate prayer. All of these combined allow you to leave the session feeling calm and grounded.

My goal is to build closer and stronger relationships and impart hope through Christian counseling. Together with your goals, we will formulate a treatment plan that has specific and achievable steps. When you come in as a couple, your relationship is the primary focus. We will work with Prepare/Enrich to maintain an orderly and positive outcome each time.

You will get faith-based support to help overcome substance abuse. Having been in and led a 12-step group for close to four years now, we can use their tools or simply tackle with evidence-based treatments found in CBT, DBT, or brief therapy.

Are you ready for change?
